Your Guide to Hair Extensions at Fringe: Finding the Right Fit for Your Hair

Hair extensions aren't one-size-fits-all — and honestly, that's the best news you'll get if you've ever left a consultation more confused than when you walked in. The method matters just as much as the hair itself. The right install lays flat, feels weightless, moves with you, and grows out gracefully. The wrong one? You'll feel it every time you tie your hair up.

At Fringe, we work with Frame & Thread — luxury Slavic, cuticle-intact, ethically sourced hair that's double-drawn for root-to-tip thickness. Below is a quick tour of the five extension types we install, who each one is built for, and how we decide together at your consultation.

1. Hand-Tied Wefts

The gold standard for a fully hidden install. Thin, flat wefts are sewn onto a row of tiny beaded anchors along your scalp — no glue, no heat, no tape. Because we buy them individually, we can hand-blend colors and dimensions row by row, giving you thickness where you want it and softness where you don't.

Best for: Clients who want length and fullness with a seamless, undetectable finish, and who can commit to move-ups every 6–8 weeks.

2. Micro Wefts

Same beautiful Slavic hair as our hand-tied wefts, but built on an ultra-thin, flexible polyurethane track. The track doesn't hold moisture or swell — meaning it dries fast, feels lighter, and holds up to a more active life.

Best for: Clients who are rough on traditional wefts, love a good workout, air-dry frequently, or have a sensitive scalp. Also plays beautifully in a hybrid install alongside hand-tied wefts.

3. Applique Tips (K-Tips)

Strand-by-strand extensions attached with a small Italian keratin bond — one gram per strand, installed individually. Because each bond is tiny and placed exactly where we need it, we can tuck them into the hairline, along a part, or into thinner areas that wefts can't reach.

Best for: Filling in fine areas, blending around the face, or adding coverage where hand-tied wefts leave a gap. Perfect as a hybrid alongside wefts, or as a full-head install for anyone who prefers no rows.

4. Seamless Tabs

A modern tape-in with an ultra-flexible, virtually invisible tab that lies completely flat against your scalp. We "sandwich" them into your natural hair using pre-applied hypoallergenic tape — quick to install, quick to move up, and comfortable enough for even the finest hair or the most sensitive scalp.

Best for: Fine or sensitive-scalp clients, first-timers dipping a toe into extensions, and anyone who values a fast in-and-out appointment. Adhesive holds 6–8 weeks and the tabs can be re-taped up to three times.

5. Beach Wave & Curls

Because straight-hair extensions on a wavy or curly client is a mismatch you can feel. Frame & Thread's textured collection comes in beach wave and curly capsules, available on both micro-weft tracks and K-Tip bonds — so you get a true textural match, not a "close enough."

Best for: Anyone with naturally soft waves or curls who wants length and body without the daily fight to make straight hair behave like curly hair. Air-dry it, add a curl cream, and go.

How We Choose Together

There's no "best" extension — only the best fit for your hair, lifestyle, and how you like to spend your mornings. At your consultation, we'll look at:

  • Your natural density and texture — thicker hair holds wefts easily; finer hair often does better with tabs or K-tips.

  • Your lifestyle — daily workouts, swimming, or a lot of air-drying? Micro wefts or K-tips shine here.

  • Where you want the fullness — around the face, all-over volume, or hidden length only? Different methods live in different places.

  • Your maintenance rhythm — how often can you comfortably come back for move-ups?

Ready to talk it through? Book a consultation at Fringe and we'll build a plan that fits your hair, not the other way around.
